Unit Trusts are Open ended collective investments. They put the funds from each investor into one large pooled fund. The advantage of this system is that the risk is spread between many investors and costs are kept under control. Therefore, with a unit trust you can still invest in the stock market but with less personal risk, and the advantage of professional fund managers' expertise.

Fund managers can buy and sell stock within the trust without having to pay tax, however tax liabilities can still arise from unit sales and dividends to the holder.
